    2012 - 08.02

This week was a popular one we ended up having 8 people show up for wine night. It is quickly becoming the place to be on a Wednesday night. We tried “Pillar Box Red” from Australia and “Castle Rock” from California.

Henry’s Drive Vignerons – Pillar Box Red

The pillar box was a red blend which Dante, Chad, and Bridget are usually big fans of, though this one didn’t make their palates cut. Chad went so far as to say the Pillar Box tasted like plastic. Bridget was right there with Chad give it a fairly low rating of “Tastes like shit”. Thaddeus thought the bite it had at the end killed the fact that it started off sweet for a red. Dante put the nails in the coffin sealing the fate of this poor bottle, rating it “Like drinking bong water”. Though we’ve had much worse and it will get you drunk at 14.5%, overall no one liked it. It’s not likely one we will try again.

    Rating:
       Bridget – Tastes like shit
Dante – Like drinking bong water
Chad – I’d like to rinse my mouth out with Battery Acid now
Thaddeus – Like drinking bong water

    Monterey County – Castle Rock

“Castle rock” to second wine of the evening didn’t fare much better. Though Thaddeus did like it somewhat placing it on just above neutral. Both Chad and Bridget disliked it but rated it higher than the “pillar box” which isn’t really saying much since they both really didn’t like the “pillar box”. Dante came out neutral on this one, not really liking it but thought it was drinkable. It turned out to be a very average wine but at 13.5% it’s not going to be something we will be reaching for, but I believe any of us would turn down a free glass or two.

    Rating:
Bridget – Like drinking bong water
Dante – If there’s nothing else
Chad – Like drinking bong water
Thaddeus – I’d get drunk on this
